The Stepped Line Chart moves in horizontal-then-vertical steps between hollow points, over fine gridlines on a see-through panel, packed tight. It is the natural fit for running totals - league points, cumulative sales, XP. Use your own data, colors, theme, font and animation preset.
Frequently asked questions
- When is a stepped line the right choice?
- When the value holds and then jumps: a running total updated at intervals, a count of seats called through the night, a price that changes on set dates.
- Does it show the values?
- The axis gives the scale; the Trend design adds the final value and the Dashed design labels every step if you need the numbers on the line.
- Can I overlay this on my own footage?
- Yes. Export it as a transparent MOV (ProRes 4444 with alpha) and place it on a track above your video in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or CapCut.
- Will the export match the preview?
- Yes. The export renders the same element with the same data, theme and animation you see on this page, frame for frame, as an MP4 or a transparent MOV in landscape or portrait.
